Global cyber expert and industry influencer adds wealth of information technology, security and risk management experience

DURANGO, Colo.—March 28, 2022—Keyavi Data Corp., a cybersecurity trailblazer whose breakthrough technology is transforming the very nature of the data security industry, announced today that Gary Hayslip has joined the company’s board of directors.  Hayslip, a world-renowned cybersecurity expert, brings deep leadership and technology experience to Keyavi’s board, with a successful 25-year career in multiple roles as chief information security officer (CISO), chief information officer (CIO), deputy director of IT and chief privacy officer in the federal, municipal and private sectors.

He currently serves as the global CISO for SoftBank Group International and SoftBank Investment Advisers, where he orchestrates cybersecurity strategies for publicly held investment funds with over $160 billion in capital spanning more than 240 portfolio companies worldwide.

“Gary is highly regarded in global IT circles as an influential thought leader and CISO whose mastery of cybersecurity has helped guide our industry for years,” said Elliot Lewis, CEO of Keyavi. “At every touchpoint throughout his storied career, Gary has pioneered initiatives to safeguard billion-dollar enterprises from criminals as well as to help grow game-changing startups like Keyavi. We’re thrilled to welcome him to our board.”

“I’m honored to be part of a company whose vision for redefining markets with industry-shattering technology aligns so closely with mine,” Hayslip said. “Keyavi solved one of the biggest security problems that organizations of every size have faced for decades – making data itself so smart that it follows its owner’s every command and knows to self-protect if it falls into criminal hands.  I’m excited to join Elliot and my board colleagues in supporting Keyavi’s business trajectory and the massive market opportunities that await.”

At Webroot Software, Hayslip was responsible for all information security strategies and policies, standards, procedures and internal controls – from protecting critical data resources to risk management.

As San Diego’s former CISO and deputy director, Hayslip was the driving force behind the municipality’s World Smart City Initiative—a crucible for nurturing clusters of entrepreneurial cybersecurity companies and talent.

Hayslip began his cyber career in the U.S. Navy, both as an active-duty command information security officer and as the deputy head of IT for the Pacific fleet’s Southwest Regional Maintenance Command.

He is the co-author of two volumes on best practices for CISOs entitled, The CISO Desk Reference Guide, as well as several other books: The Executive Primer: An Executive’s Guide to Security Programs and Developing your Cybersecurity Career Path. Hayslip also published The Essential Guide to Cybersecurity for SMBs to help security practitioners protect startups and small businesses from cyberattacks.

As an active member of professional organizations ISC2, the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), ISACA and Infragard, Hayslip holds the industry’s CISSP, CISA and CRISC certifications.  He also earned dual degrees – a BS in information systems management from the University of Maryland and an MBA from San Diego State University.

About Keyavi Data Corp.

Headquartered in Durango, Colorado, Keyavi’s multi-award-winning, self-protecting, intelligent and self-aware cybersecurity technology enables an individual piece of data to think for itself; secure itself; control where, when and who is allowed to access it; refuse access to unauthorized users; stay continually aware of its surroundings and automatically report back to its owner – with all these capabilities built into the data itself. The company’s API platform and a full suite of applications riding on that platform also provide data owners with powerful controls to allow, revoke or deny access to their information – no matter who has it, on any platform or device or where it’s stored, or how many copies exist. Under development for years before launching in 2020, this multi-patented technology is so unique and innovative that leading industry analyst firm Omdia designated “self-protecting data solutions” as a new cybersecurity industry category, with Keyavi as the clear leader. This easy-to-use yet robust solution delivers the ultimate in peace of mind for public and private organizations, their hybrid workforces and partner ecosystems in solving the security challenges of controlling confidential and intellectual property from data leaks, breaches and ransomware.
